This Getting Started page defines the basic steps to follow to properly install and launch Intalio|BPMS Designer.
The Intalio|BPMS Designer distribution is provided as a single file with a .JAR extension.
This JAR file is executable (as .EXE files on Windows, for example).
Note to Eclipse users: this JAR file contains a set of plugins bundled with the full Eclipse 3.1 SDK distribution. There is no need to install Eclipse before.
The Intalio|BPMS Designer has the following requirements:
To install Intalio|Designer CE, locate the designer-installer.jar file and double-click it. If Java is properly installed this will launch the installer. If not, make sure JAVA is properly installed on your computer. Also, some users have experienced problems when attempting to lanuch the designer-installer.jar file from a directory that has white space or special characters in its path. If you experience problems, you may want to try to copy this file in C:\ and launch it from there.
Then follow the instructions on each page.



At this point the installation of Intalio|BPMS Designer is complete.
To launch Intalio|BPMS Designer simply navigate to the installation location you chose and double-click on the designer.exe application.
This section provides tips and answers to FAQs.
Settings such as the tabs look, where the perspective buttons appears and if they show text can be controlled by opening Window->Preferences...->General->Appearance.
All the Designer related editors and views and available from the Intalio|BPMS Designer perspective. When using Eclipse you must open the Intalio|BPMS Designer perspective to have access to the full Designer functionality. To open the Intalio|BPMS Designer perspective go to Window->Open Perpective->Other... and select the Intalio|BPMS Designer perspective.
You can also customize the current perspective and pick Designer views (see Window->Customize Perspective... and Window->Show View->Other...->Process).
Creating diagrams require a project to contain them, hence you must first create a Business Process Project. Once a project is created you can start modeling new diagrams.

Then you can get started with a new Diagram by using File->New->Diagram.
Intalio|BPMS Designer provides several preferences. You can change these by accessing the Process preferences under Window->Preferences->Process and select the various pages.
