BPMN Designer produces diagrams, and they cannot be saved as XPDL files. XPDL is however the standard way of saving process diagrams. If BPMN Designer hopes to become the premium BPMN Modeler, then it is simply imperative that it should support XPDL. BPMN Designer would be under competition before you know it, and one should not be caught sleeping.
Of course, it means that Intalio cannot lock in the Users into their Application Suite, but that is a small price to pay for being the first among the equals.
